The papaya (Carica papaya) is a fruit which comes from the tropical areas of Central America but is cultivated nowadays in tropical and subtropical areas all over the world. The fruit, growing on a plant similar to a tree, has a yellow-green peel with a sweet orange-red pulp. The inside is filled with black round pits which can also be eaten. When the pulp is very soft, the fruit is perfectly ripe with sweetest flavour.
Production area and harvesting
Our Papaya is growing in the south of Spain in the region Andalucía. Near the coast, with the humid influence of the Mediterranean Sea, the climate is close to the subtropical conditions, needed by the papaya plant. The fruits are available all year long.
The papayas, in many calibres, are sent in cardboard boxes.
